                                            Chapter I: Midna's Story

‘Welcome home Midna,’ That had been the first thought to come across the young Twilight Princess’s mind as she took her first steps into the Twilight Realm after suffering from such a long battle.

It, of course, felt amazing to be back, to see the beautiful Twili sky again. Just thinking of actually being back home and knowing that the fight was finally over was such an overwhelming moment that Midna actually began to form tears in her crimson eyes.

She couldn’t help but to let out a sob.
Everything that had happened to her, being turn into a imp, meeting Link, being in the world of Light, and having to do so many things. But probably the hardest part to except was knowing that Zant would be gone forever.

That fact alone just brought so many different emotions up front to Midna it was honestly hard to control all of them.

The strongest one of all of them though was hatred.

Midna, for the third time in her life, hated Zant with such a burning passion; it was hard to control herself.

“Princess Midna!” Someone shouted, pulling Midna from her train of thought.

She looked to her left than looked to her right and what she saw made a huge grin appear across her face.

Running towards her was none other than one of Midna’s best friends, Edward.

Edward himself also had a grin upon his face, finally reaching distance to Midna he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her as hard as he could.

To Midna, just seeing Edward made all of her troubles wash away, because Edward was the one person that Midna could always count on, even when times were tough, and after being in the World of Light for such a long period of time Midna had began to wonder if she would ever be granted a chance to see Edward again.

As Midna stood there standing before the ruins of the Twilight Palace, flashbacks of her childhood played through her mind like a movie. A movie of the moments which lead to the reason why she was standing there hugging Edward for dear life in front of her ruined home, thanking the gods it was all over.

The first flashback was when she first met Edward and how just like that they had already began to become lifelong friends.

When Midna had met Edward she had been but a girl nearing the age of her teen years, around the age of about… 11 maybe, somewhere along that line.
But the age doesn’t really matter, all that matters is the story.

Midna’s parents had never been really supportive of her deep friendship with Edward, all because he was a peasant. The king did not want his daughter, the future queen of the Twilight Realm to be hanging around that type of people. Though Midna knew her father did not like it she still continued her friendship with Edward.

In the beginning of their friendship it had been around that time that they had met a boy, around the same age as themselves, whose parents worked as slaves for Midna’s family, Zant.

Looking back, Midna thought it quite amazing as to how someone who had always been so quiet and calm and never really said anything to anyone had become so violent.

When Midna and Edward had met Zant they all three became quick friends, Midna really starting to push the limits of her parent’s wishes of choosing different types of people for friends.

But as the years past and they all became older and closer friends Midna had began to develop a slight crush on Zant. And as she went through her teenage years the crush only became deeper and more passionate. There had been times when Midna had actually took hours of a day wondering whether or not she really loved Zant or if he at all had any sort of romantic interest in her. She knew that she would be well over her parent’s limits and probably would suffer many hard years if they ever found out. So she tried her best to sweep aside the growing crush and just completely ignore it.

Though she did try her hardest she couldn’t keep her rapidly growing crush for the young man with orange hair, and after years of trying to conceal her feelings Midna finally decided to tell him. What surprised Midna more than anything was that Zant had actually been feeling the same way about her.

So even though her parents would most likely to kill her if they ever found out about it, they made love to each other and started to (as best as they could) to go out. To Midna, that had probably been the greatest time of Midna’s life, she had never in all of her life had felt so happy. That is until Zant proposed to elope with her.

Of course this was want Midna wanted to do, she wanted it probably more than anything else she ever had wanted anything before. But even though it broke her heart and his, she denied his request, and she had no idea why, to this very day she still had no clue as to why she gave up something that they both wanted so much. They both dreamed of running away and making a family and watching their children grow old and dying in each other’s arms. That’s what they both wanted.
Yet she denied his request and turned her back on him.

Somehow during this time the king and queen soon found out about their daughter’s little happenings. They had been so embarrassed; they banished Zant’s entire family from the Twilight Palace.

That had probably been darkest time of Midna’s life; it had been so bad that she had even considered suicide, thinking of it as the best option and her escape from all the grief she was feeling. But this had been the time when Edward had shone through and helped Midna through her depression.  Over the course of time they had become such close friends that it seemed they could read what the other was thinking.

Even though Midna had Edward it just wasn’t the same as having Zant to, it didn’t even seem right. Every night for three straight years Midna had lied in bed at night and cried over Zant. She really hated herself for being so stupid.

‘How could you have thrown away all that you two had! How could you turn your back on Zant!’ Midna constantly yelled that question inside her head; it was all just too much for someone like her to deal with.

Midna missed Zant so much, she had missed him so much she couldn’t even think straight, and to her parent’s shame she began to grow slightly insane. Things just weren’t the same anymore, you couldn’t take anything for granted because if you do you’ll be ripped from it and it’ll drive you into insanity.

The sad thing about it was that no matter how hard Edward tried to help his friend nothing worked, nothing at all worked. It all just made her lose a little bit of sanity, and when things seemed like they just couldn’t get any worse, they did.
Zant, somehow or another, found away to see Midna for the first time in three years and though Midna had thrown herself onto him, sobbing, he pushed her roughly aside and called her a bitch. Saying things such as “Why’d you throw away it all?” or “How could you do this to me!”

The same things Midna constantly asked her own self.

Everything from that moment on took a turn for the worse. Midna dove deep into a depression where she never ate, she never said a word to anyone, and she never even left her room. Midna just sat on her bed all day long staring at the wall lost into her own mind, completely insane. Half the time Midna didn’t even know where she herself was, all she knew was that Zant hated her and it was all her fault that she had fucked up their life together.

She didn’t blame him for hating her; she was more disgusted with herself than Zant probably was. Midna hated herself and in her mind everyone did to. She didn’t know what love was anymore, those days when she would sneak out of the castle to meet up with Zant and they’d walk around the town and then later in the night they’d make love, those days were long gone, and to Midna none of it had actually happened, it had all been a wonderful dream.

Many times Edward had sneaked up into Midna’s room to find her lying on the bed whispering incoherent words totally oblivious to Edward. When he wrapped his arms around her shoulder to hug her Midna didn’t even move. She had no clue as to what was happening anymore, and Edward feared, he really was afraid, that Midna was so deep inside her own mind that she wouldn’t come back.

Midna was in too deep to come back, so deep that it shocked everyone in the entire Twilight Palace to see Midna outside of her room again, and that’s exactly what happened.

It had been just an average day in the Twilight Realm nothing new was happening; things were actually kind of boring to be honest, but sitting there in the dining room table that morning eating breakfast with a smile on her face was Midna.

To everyone it seemed that she had finally gotten over her depression and even to her own self it seemed like that. No one was sure what had happened to her, not even herself. Just out of nowhere when everyone has finally lost hope she comes back.

That is until Zant came back again to talk to Midna.

Midna had been standing out on one of the balconies just looking over the Twilight Realm lost in her own thoughts when someone had called out her name. Her heart had skipped a beat when she recognized who the voice belonged to but was disappointed when she didn’t see him. So she continued to view to the Twilight Realm, until the voice had called out again, but this time it had come from right behind her.

Midna turned around to be face to face with known other than Zant himself. At first Midna herself almost didn’t recognize him. ‘He looks so different now…’ Midna had thought.

But it filled her up with happiness knowing that Zant was standing right there though it shortly made some of her happiness fly out knowing that Zant hated her.
“Zant,” Midna whispered, she couldn’t contain herself from speaking to him, even though she did began to think she was over him, she wasn’t, she loved him probably more than she ever had in her life. Oh, how she wanted him, how she needed him.

Zant didn’t say anything back to her, not like she expected him to, instead he started to take steps towards her, and even though she didn’t want to, Midna’s instincts told her to step back.

Finally Zant through his arm to the side and without even realizing it Midna had fallen to the ground. She tried to stand up but couldn’t find the strength to, that’s when she saw her arms. They weren’t the long elegant arms she had always had; no these were shorter and very ugly looking. Midna gasped in horror as she took a look at her own body which did not like anything Midna had ever seen before.
Confusion quickly shot through her brain, Midna had no clue as to what was happening, until it finally dawned on her: Zant had turned her into an imp. The thoughts of horror had apparently shown on her expression because Zant began to laugh, a laugh Midna did not recognize as his.

She looked up at Zant and felt something towards him that in all her life she never knew was possible; she felt hatred, she felt betrayal, and she felt anger towards him. Is this what he thought she deserved for what she had done? For once in her life Midna wanted to strangle Zant, and these sudden emotions made her too weak to do it, Midna felt like she was going to cry.

Everything that had ever happened to her finally washed over and a sudden realization washed over her: Zant didn’t love her anymore, he felt the same way about her as she did about him at that moment; hatred.

It was funny to think that they had once been lovers now look at them, they hated each other, and they wanted to kill each other. They loathed each other’s existence. This was defiantly not the same two people who had once been willing to give up anything to be together, it just couldn’t be possible. It just wasn’t possible.

But just take a look at them now and you’ll see that it is possible.

That was the moment that everything changed for the both of them, when Zant had turned Midna into an imp they both knew that one of them was going to have to die, nothing could be done now except war.

And that’s exactly what happened. They fought and Midna had won with the help of Link and now that the war is over and Midna is safely in Edward’s arms it all seems to be impossible. Like nothing was ever real.

But she knew that it was, and now it was over. Zant was dead and everything would go back to the way it was before.

How surprised Midna will be though when she finds out the course of events that are about to take place.
ok hiya people! :D so ive actually come up with an idea for a Zelda fan fiction! Isnt that like a miracle! Now this story, unlike my other Zelda stories is not a songfic and if my plans go as well.. planned itll be decent length story.

The story is kind of like a sequel to Twilight Princess and i really wanted to spend the first chapter just explaining the relationship between Midna and Zant and what it had lead to and all that good stuff :D

Haha well I hope you enjoy/enjoyed it! :D

Comments would be deeply appreciated

Peace :peace:

original, coherent and makes sense but I find that the "feelings" between Link and Midna (even if you do not speak) are not mentioned
